Vinyl Plank Flooring Cost in Rexburg, ID
What goes into an installed vinyl plank price, why two quotes for the same room can be hundreds of dollars apart, and how to get an exact number for your house.
Luxury vinyl plank is the most asked-about floor in our showroom, and the first question is almost always the price. This page answers it properly: not with a number pulled out of the air, but with the four things your number is actually made of, so that when you get a quote from us or from anybody else you can tell whether it is a fair one. If you would rather skip to your figure, we will measure your room for free and put a written quote in your hands.
What Does Vinyl Plank Flooring Cost in Rexburg?
There is no single square-foot price, and any store that gives you one over the phone without seeing the room is guessing. An installed vinyl plank price is four things added together:
| What you are paying for | What moves it up | What you control |
|---|
| The plank | Wear layer thickness, rigid versus flexible core, attached pad, brand | This is the one real choice. Wear layer is what you are buying. |
| The labour to fit it | Stairs, angles, islands, doorways, closets, working around furniture | Empty the room. Do the whole floor in one visit rather than two. |
| Getting the old floor out | Glued-down sheet vinyl and mortared tile take far longer than carpet | Nothing, but you should know it is in there before you compare quotes. |
| Prep, transitions and trim | An uneven subfloor that needs levelling, plus the pieces at every doorway and wall | Nothing. Skipping prep is how a floating floor separates at the seams. |
Compare installed prices, never material prices. A material-only number always looks cheaper and tells you nothing about what the job will cost.

What Is Included in an Installed Price?
When we quote a vinyl plank floor, these are the lines behind the total:
- The plank itself, priced by the square foot, plus the waste factor for cuts. Waste is normal and it is higher in rooms with lots of angles.
- Underlayment, if the product does not have a pad already attached to it.
- Tear-out and haul-away of the old floor, including tack strip and pad if it was carpet.
- Subfloor prep, which is levelling, patching, or screwing down anything that moves.
- Labour to install, which is where room shape and stairs matter more than square footage.
- Transitions and trim, the pieces at doorways and along the walls that make the floor look finished.
- Moving furniture and appliances, if the room is not empty when we arrive.
You get all of that itemised in writing. If a quote you are holding does not show those lines, ask for them, because a line that is missing from the quote is not missing from the job.
Labour Cost to Install Vinyl Plank Flooring
Labour is usually the part people underestimate, because it does not scale with square footage the way material does. A big open living room is fast. A galley kitchen with an island, a pantry, and four doorways is slow, even though it is a fraction of the size.
What pushes labour up:
- Stairs. The most labour-intensive square footage in any house, by a wide margin. Count them before you compare quotes and make sure every quote includes them.
- Cuts and angles. Islands, hearths, bay windows, and closets all mean hand-fitting.
- Subfloor that is not flat. A floating floor over an uneven subfloor will separate at the seams, so levelling is not optional.
- Removing what is there. Glued-down sheet vinyl and mortared tile take longer to remove than carpet.
- Working around occupancy. Doing one room at a time in a lived-in house takes longer than an empty house.
Why One Vinyl Plank Quote Is Higher Than Another
If you are holding two quotes with a big gap between them, it is almost always one of these:
- Wear layer. Two planks can be the same thickness with completely different wear layers. The wear layer is the clear top coat, it is measured in mils, and it is what decides how long the floor looks new. This is the most common hidden difference between a cheap quote and a fair one.
- Core construction. A rigid waterproof core costs more than a flexible one and behaves better over an imperfect subfloor.
- What the quote leaves out. Tear-out, haul-away, subfloor prep, and transitions are sometimes quietly missing from the low number and come back as change orders.
- Who installs it. Our installers work for the store that sold you the floor, so the warranty conversation only involves one phone number.
How Long Does a Vinyl Plank Install Take?
Time and cost move together, so this question is really the same question. The install itself is usually the shortest part of the project. What takes the time is everything before it.
- Choosing. Take samples home. Looking at a plank in your own light next to your own cabinets is the difference between a floor you like and a floor you tolerate.
- The measure. We come out, measure, and the quote follows. It costs nothing and it does not expire, so there is no reason to leave it until you are ready.
- Getting the material. This is the swing. Anything from our in-stock inventory can go almost immediately because it is in one of our three warehouses. A special order is a wait, and we will tell you which one you are looking at before you commit.
- Tear-out and prep. Pulling carpet is quick. Breaking out mortared tile is not, and levelling a subfloor adds a day on its own.
- The install. An average room goes down faster than most people expect. Stairs, angles and an occupied house are what stretch it.
Tell us the date the room needs to be finished and we will work backward from it rather than forward from today. If you are turning a rental property between tenants, that is the only way to schedule it.
How to Compare Flooring Quotes Fairly
- Compare installed prices, not material prices.
- Ask for the wear layer in mils on every quote and write it next to the price.
- Check that tear-out, haul-away, prep, and transitions are on every quote or none of them.
- Ask who is doing the install and who you call if something goes wrong in a year.
- Count the stairs and make sure everyone quoted them.
Ways to Bring the Cost Down
- Shop what is in stock. In-stock material skips the freight and the wait, and we keep three warehouses of it. See what is on the floor now.
- Empty the room yourself. Furniture moving is billable time.
- Do the whole floor at once. Two rooms in one visit costs less than two visits.
- Mix materials sensibly. Vinyl plank where water and traffic go, carpet in the bedrooms. You get the durability where it matters and pay less overall.
- Use financing rather than downgrading. The Flooring America Synchrony HOME card offers 12 and 18 month deferred interest plans and a 36 month equal payment plan, which lets you buy the wear layer you actually want and spread the payment. Terms and credit approval apply.
Get an Exact Number Instead of an Estimate
An online calculator does not know your subfloor, your doorways, or your stairs. We will come out, measure, and give you a written quote with every line visible, at no cost and with no obligation. Bring us a photo of the room and we can usually tell you which products are worth looking at before you even come in.
